Solid Hardwood

There has never been a substitute for quality, and with Arden Heritage floors the quality runs all through the floor from top to bottom.

Solid hardwood has been used for centuries as the fabric of construction in our homes and has provided the foundation for our buildings and lifestyle.

Today real solid hardwood is becoming more and more desirable as customers reject synthetic mass produced products and in preference turn to natural organic, environmentally friendly materials.

Arden Heritage - Solid Hardwood flooring, there is no substitute!

Thickness

14mm thick solid hardwood, ideal for the areas where space is restricted, ideal for use where door heights are set, or to enable one floor to meet with another without making a significant step.

14 mm can only be fitted onto a sound sub floor, which provides support under the whole board.

20mm can be used as a structural floor, and may be installed over joists.  Many customers prefer the ambience that the 20mm floor creates as it gives a more solid feel and sound.

Board width

All boards are measured in millimetres and the Arden heritage collection spans a range of widths from 130mm up to 190mm.

The different board widths allow you to create a feeling of in proportion to the dimensions of the room.

Each board width is detailed in the Key.

Board length

Arden Heritage Hardwood flooring is produced in a manner, which reflects the traditional way of making hardwood flooring.

We produce the floor in random lengths to give each floor individuality and a design which cannot be created in lesser quality floors.

Hardwood is a precious natural material and we endeavour to combine a length of board, which looks aesthetically pleasing in the traditional way, with the most efficient use of the cut log.

Most floors will have a range of board lengths between 400mm and 2000mm, with a maximum of 20% 400mm.

This creates the best looking floors, a combination of long board lengths and a delicate bevel to define each board

Format

Plank

All flooring is produced in plank format, i.e the full board is made only of one piece of hardwood.

The tongue and groove is machined into the plank on both the sides and ends (end matched), to give strength to carry over joists and to align the surface in an even finish.

Four Bevel

Each individual plank has a subtle bevel machined on both the long edges and across the ends.

When fitted, each board can be subtly seen, and the effect of light, falling across the floor, brings the floor to life.

Arden Heritage floors can be ordered without bevelled edges (or a finer bevel) if requested, Please allow a 6-8 week bespoke production time

Finish

Hand Finished

To achieve the subtle distressing, shading and textures of the hardwood flooring within the “Castle Collection”, each board is carefully hand finished to provide a floor, which is extremely rich in character and has the appearance and patina of decades of careful use.

Hand finished, to create an exquisite collection of dramatic solid oak floors; each selected piece of hardwood is hand distressed creating a floor that is timeless and truly unique.

Brushed Enhanced Grain

The gentle process of brushing out the softer grain in the surface of the solid hardwood leaves a rich texture in the wood.

The natural texture of the wood is further enhanced by the careful application of satin lacquer or alternatively, a deep oil finish.

This work results in a beautifully enhanced grain, showing off the individual and very natural patterns within the hardwood.

Satin Lacquer

The most popular surface finish for Arden Heritage is Satin Lacquer.

6 stages in the lacquer process ensure a tough and durable finish is applied to the hardwood, releasing the natural beauty of the hardwood, whilst at the same time protecting it from the rigours of day-to-day use.

Matt Lacquer

Available to order we can apply a very flat matt lacquer to emulate the surface finish of an oiled floor, but without the higher maintenance the latter requires.

Oiled

The most natural way to finish our floors is to use a deep oiling process. Oiling really brings out the natural beauty of the wood and soaks deep into the surface protecting the fibres and providing a base for either waxing or re-oiling. This should be don at least annually or as when required.

Fixing

Acoustic

Acoustic Silent Layer System.

New technology has enabled solid hardwood flooring to be installed into areas previously un-achievable. Combining acoustic sound reduction properties with the ability to install a 14 or 20mm solid floor without nailing to joists opens a world of installation opportunities. The silent layer matting has a high density with overlapping slots into which the adhesive is applied. The hardwood is laid into the adhesive, securing the hardwood effectively to the sub floor.

The acoustic system reduces the effects of sound by 21dB.

Technical

Fully Bonded

Arden Heritage solid hardwood flooring can be bonded directly to the sub floor using an advanced technology adhesive, which remains elastic even then fully cured.
